  PETRONAS SIGNS MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) WITH THE MALAYSIAN MARITIME ENFORCEMENT AGENCY (MMEA)

Most of PETRONAS' oil and gas exploration facilities in Malaysia are located at Sabah and Sarawak waters. Some of them are facing serious threats following fishing activities including fish bombing that could result in a catastrophic disasters like the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in New Mexico in 2010.

In mitigating such incidents, PETRONAS in collaboration with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) will embark on an initiative called 'Sahabat Maritim’ which carries the objective of educating fishermen in East Malaysia on the impact of fishing activities around oil and gas exploration facilities as well as providing them with information on alternative fishing areas.

The collaborative initiative will be formalised in a MoU Signing Ceremony to take place at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA’15).

PETRONAS would like to invite members of the media to cover the event. Details are as follows:

The MoU will be signed by the Director of MMEA, Laksamana Maritim Datuk Amdan Kurish together with PETRONAS Vice President of Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), Adif Zulkiflee.

Minister in The Prime Minister’s Office & Advisor of MMEA, Y.B. Dato’ Seri Shahidan Kassim will witness the MoU signing.
